Horouta Waka

The museum people came and taught us about the Horouta waka. We made some sand art and a waka of our own out of kebab sticks, a piece of sheet for the flags and some wood from the beach.
Here is the Horouta waka story.
Kiwa and Paoa sailed across the sea to Aoteoroa with kumara on the boat. The Horouta waka broke. Paoa had to find a big tree so they could repair it. He floated it down the river. Kiwa sailed the waka to Turanganui-a-Kiwa and waited for Paoa.

  1. Malo e lei lei Noe,
Was it difficult to make the waka out of kebab sticks and sheet? Did the kebab sticks stay in the driftwood? What happened at the end of Paoa and Kiwa's journey? Did they fix the waka and keep sailing?
    Mā te wā,
