Matariki

Matariki

What is matariki? Matariki is a group of stars who are sisters.
There are nine sisters at night you can see a group of stars twinkling
in the skies.

Only in June you can see them.
The nine stars are called, Matariki, Pohutukawa, Waiti, Waita,
Waipuna-a-Rangi, Tupuanuku, Tuarangi, Ururangi, and Hiwa-i-te-Rangi.
Maori people celebrate Matariki by enjoying food, songs, games and
haka as a family. It is a time to remember the people who have passed away,
and to celebrate new life into their families.
